Japan's National Activity Report to ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22/WG5

IPSJ/ITSCJ SC22/Fortran WG now has 13 members from computer manufacturers, 
system integrators and universities and meets once every month.

We completed the translation of ISO/IEC 1539-2:1994 (Varying Length Character 
String) into Japanese. It will be the Japanese Standard of that part in the 
beginning of 1998.

In addition, we are now working on the revision of the JIS Fortran standard 
(from F90 to F95) and will prepare the draft standard by March 1998. It will be
published by the end of the year. Its technical content is identical with 
ISO/IEC 1539-1:1997.

We found some defect items in Fortran 95 during the revision work, and will 
report them shortly after the maintenance procedure is resumed.
