ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22/WG5 N1366 To: wg5 Subject: modification to the IEEE TR Resolve: WG5 confirms J3's proposed change (item 25. Of paper 99-167). That is, delete the sentence: "If any exception is signaling when the program terminates, the processor shall issue a warning on the unit identified by "*" in a WRITE statement, indicating which conditions are signaling." Discussion: As currently written, the TR *requires* a processor to produce a message upon completion whenever any exception is signaling. It has been noted that this is likely to annoy users. Any developer who desires such a diagnostic can use the other facilities of the TR to produce it under application control. Deletion of this requirement does NOT invalidate any existing processor, as it will be processor dependent whether to automatically produce such a message or not.
