                Edits to the FCD resulting from the ISO comments

Here are copies of the ISO comments with my suggested edits in response. 
I would like to thank Mike Gibson of ISO for his help in constructing 
these suggested edits. 


Comment 1. Line numbers appear throughout the document.  
   Please remove.

Response: Continue with line numbers in an 007 document, but make a version 
without line numbers for submission to SC22 as the DIS.


Comment 2. There are several instances of outdated text and other
   problems that could be solved by using the latest version
   of the ISO template.
   Please use the ISO template, available online at
   http://isotc.iso.ch/livelink/livelink/fetch/2000/2123/SDS_WEB/sds_temp.htm.

Response. Make the following changes:

viii,ix. In the leading line for Annex A, replace "A" by 
"Annex A (informative)" and similarly for B, C, D, and E.

8:24-28. Replace this paragraph by 
  "The following referenced standards are indispensable for the application 
  of this standard. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. 
  For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced standard 
  (including any amendments) applies."

8:30-31,35,39-40. Move the lines to become 3 separate paragraphs below 8:40. 

18:37. Replace this paragraph by 
  "For the purposes of this standard, the definitions of terms in this subclause
  apply."


Comment 3. ISO International Standards should be identified as
   "International Standards"; standards of other 
   organizations should be identified as "standards"; national standards
   should be identified as "national standards".
   Please search the document and make the changes where appropriate.

Response. Make the following changes:

xiii:2. Change title to "International Standard programming language Fortran".

xiii:3. Replace "international standard" by "International Standard".

xiii:(8) Replace "IEC standard" by "IEC International Standard".

3:5. Replace "standard" by "Fortran International Standard".

Comment 4. Incorrect text and format are used.  
   Please use the latest version of the Foreword, 
   available from the ISO template.  

Response. Make the following changes:

xii. Replace the first two paragraphs by these three paragraphs:

  "ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a
  worldwide federation of national standards bodies (ISO member
  bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally
  carried out through ISO technical committees. Each member body
  interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been
  established has the right to be represented on that
  committee. International organizations, governmental and
  non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO
  collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical
  Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.

  International Standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given
  in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2.

  The main task of technical committees is to prepare International
  Standards. Draft International Standards adopted by the technical
  committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting. Publication
  as an International Standard requires approval by at least 75% of the
  member bodies casting a vote."


Comment 5. Incorrect headers are used.  
   Headers should read "ISO/IEC 1539-1:2004(E)".  

Response: In the headers change "Final Committee Draft" to 
  "Draft International Standard". In the headers of the DIS, change 
  "J3/03-007R2" to "ISO/IEC 1539-1:2004(E)"


Comment 6. Incorrect footers are used.  
   Footers should read "(C) ISO/IEC 2004 -- All rights reserved".

Response: In the footers change "Final Committee Draft" to 
  "Draft International Standard". In the footers of the DIS, change
  "OCT 2003" to "(C) ISO/IEC 2004 -- All rights reserved". If this is
  easy, use the typeset copyright symbol.
