ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22/WG5-N1651 BRITISH STANDARDS INSTITUTION COMMITTEE ON PROGRAMMING LANGUAGES (IST/5) UK National Activity Report presented to the meeting of ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22/WG5 (Fortran), Fairfax, VA, USA, February 11 - 15, 2006 Membership and meetings Membership of the BSI Fortran Panel has changed during the year. There are 20 members, including observers. One member of the BSI Panel is also an alternate member of J3. The panel's business is normally conducted by e-mail and it meets only when there are issues to be resolved which cannot be decided otherwise. Six late requirements for revision of Fortran 2003 were submitted to the panel following the 2005 WG5 meeting. Two were forwarded to WG5 for consideration (UK-011 and UK-012 in WG5-N1649) and four were rejected. WG5 Convenor and Editor At the SC22 plenary meeting in September 2005, John Reid was reconfirmed as WG5 Convenor and Malcolm Cohen was formally appointed Project Editor. SC22 ballots The BSI votes were to confirm Varying Length Strings and to approve Technical Corrigendum 1. WG5 2007 meeting Plans are in hand to hold the next WG5 meeting in London on August 6 - 10, 2007. The working sessions will be in the British Computer Society premises in central London and overnight accommodation will be in King’s College property. There are a large number of pubs, restaurants etc within a short walking distance of the BCS; there are also theatres and concert halls nearby. Further details will be given at the end of the Fairfax meeting. British Computer Society Fortran Specialist Group and Fortran Jubilee The Fortran Specialist Group collaborates closely with the BSI Fortran Panel and membership of the two bodies overlaps. The BCS will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2007 and will be organizing various special events to mark the golden jubilee. The Fortran Specialist Group intends to hold an event in collaboration with this to mark the 50th anniversary of the release of the first Fortran compiler. Planning is at an early stage.
