ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22/WG5 N1855 Japan's National Activity Report at the WG5 Garching meeting on June 27-July 1, 2011 by TAKATA Masayuki IPSJ/ITSCJ/SC22/Fortran WG has 10 active members (6 from vendors and 4 from universities), and monthly meets face to face for 3 hours, except for this March-May, while the members were affected by the monstrous natural phenomena to some extent. As for the systematic reviews of Part 3 and the Enhanced Modules TR, Japan voted for confirmation. The reason for Part 3 was existence of its Japanese version that was to be nationally reviewed after this international review, and that for the Modules TR was allowing some more time to include it into F2003 implementations. (Japanese F2003 standard has been just published in November, 2009.) After the Convener's action to withdraw them, Japan reconsidered them and came to support the withdrawal. Existence of the Japanese version should not matter in general. Enhanced Modules could be implemented compatibly without having the TR. As for the Further C Interoperability TR, Japan couldn't make enough contribution. Just before the meeting a question was asked by its new member regarding CFI_cdesc_t being defined as a concrete struct rather than an abstract handle plus access functions. Japan requests this to be considered at this meeting.
