ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22/WG5 N1879 Convener's report from SC22 meeting John Reid, 22 September 2011 1. TR on Further Interoperability of Fortran with C It seems that the advice given at the training session last year on the new ISO/IEC procedures was not correct. WG5 was asked at this meeting of SC22 to prepare all future drafts as Technical Specifications (TS). The differences are mechanical and involve the introductory words and the headers. Furthermore, I was assured that the alternative schedule in N1859, that is DTR constructed by J3 2012-02 DTR reviewed by WG5 2012-03 DTR forwarded to SC22 2012-04 DTR ballot initiated 2012-05 DTR ballot results available 2012-08 Minor edits made by Editor 2012-08 TR published 2012-09 would be acceptable. While our deadline for completion is June 2012, we will be given warnings then and cancellation will not take place unless we fail to complete with some six months. For clarity, I asked for an SC22 resolution on the topic and this was passed by unanimous consent: "JTC 1/SC 22 instructs the JTC 1/SC 22/WG 5 Convenor to submit future drafts of TR 29113, Further Interoperability of Fortran with C as Technical Specifications and requests that the draft for DTS ballot be submitted before the end of June 2012." 2. Audio conferencing Some convenors participated in the meeting by audio conferencing. The equipment was not very satisfactory. There was an echo in the room. Neither side could hear the other with ease. Nevertheless, SC22 is determined to pursue the idea. Some delegates reported getting good results with different equipment. It will allow members that are quite unable to obtain travel funds to participate. A training session will be held next year. 3. WG5 Convenor I was appointed for a further 3-year term as convenor.
