          UK National Activity Report presented to the meeting of
ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22/WG5(Fortran), Las Vegas, NV, USA on June 23 - 27, 2014 

Membership and meetings
The BSI Fortran Panel has lost one member during the year so that
there are now 17 members, including observers.  The panel does not
hold meetings, but conducts all its business by email.  One member of
the BSI Panel is also a member of J3 and one member is WG5 convenor
and an alternate member of J3.  Of the 17 members, so far six have
been registered in JTC1's Global Directory of Working Group members.

Activity
Since the last WG5 meeting the principal activity of members of the
panel has been to develop a paper with detailed proposals for the
revision of Fortran 2008, in document WG5-N2016, and to participate in
the various ongoing discussions in WG5, particularly on development of
the Additional Parallel Features TS.

JTC1 and SC22 ballots
The UK voted approval of the third Technical Corrigendum for Fortran
2008.  Before the SC22 ballot was withdrawn, it was proposing to vote
against the disbandment of WG23.

WG5 Meeting, London August 2015
The BSI panel is pleased to invite WG5 to meet in London on August
3 - 7, 2015.  The meeting will be held in the British Computer Society
rooms in central London.  This is the same location as that used for
the WG5 meeting in 2007.  The panel is indebted to Peter Crouch for
successfully negotiating free access to the meeting rooms.
Information on detailed local arrangements is being distributed
separately.

British Fortran Standards
BS ISO/IEC 1539-3:1999 (Conditional Compilation in Fortran) has
finally been withdrawn; the corresponding ISO standard was withdrawn
in May 2011.  However the BSI Shop continues to offer for sale, at
full price, withdrawn Fortran standards and TRs from Fortran 77
onwards.

The BSI Fortran Panel gratefully acknowledges financial assistance
from the British Computer Society Membership Board towards members'
attendance at standards meetings during 2013-2014.
