ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22/WG5-N2104 BRITISH STANDARDS INSTITUTION COMMITTEE ON PROGRAMMING LANGUAGES (IST/5) UK National Activity Report presented to the meeting of ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22/WG5(Fortran), Boulder, CO, on June 6 - 10, 2016 Membership and meetings The BSI Fortran Panel conducts its business by email. It has gained one member and lost one during the past year so that, including observers, there are still 17 members twelve of whom have been registered in JTC1's Global Directory of Working Group members. Unfortunately Lawrie Schonfelder has felt obliged to resign because of ill health. Lawrie was for a long time a very active member of the panel and of WG5. He has also been a member of X3J3, project editor of Part 2 of the Fortran standard, and a member and chairman of IST/5, the BSI counterpart to SC22. Activity During the past year the principal activity of members of the panel has been participation in the various ongoing discussions in WG5, including those on interpretations and the fourth Corrigendum. JTC1 and SC22 ballots The UK voted 'confirm' in the systematic review of the Fortran 2008 standard. Price of Standards BSI sells the national version of the Fortran 2008 standard for £450. ISO sells its version for CHF 198 and ANSI sells the US national version for $60. This anomaly has been brought to the attention of BSI with the suggestion that a lower price would increase distribution and awareness of the standard. Acknowledgements The BSI Fortran Panel gratefully acknowledges financial support from the British Computer Society Membership Board towards members' attendance at standards meetings during 2015-2016.
